A three-judge Bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra found two tweets by Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan amounting to “criminal contempt and scandalising the Court". Punishment deferred on 20.08.2020.
We have serious concern on verdict of Supreme Court against Mr. Prashant Bhusan and discussed with the members of Bar, Senior Advocates across Tamilnadu and planned for silent gathering.
On the basis, today we initiated a first phase of peaceful protest in Madras High Court, at the AAVIN gate entrance by tie our eyes and mouth with black cloth with proper COVID safety measures and social distancing.
More than 100 Madras High Court including Senior Advocate Vijayakumar, Ayyadurai and Advocates Milton, Parventan, Bharathi, Elango, Xavier Felix, Sathya Paul, Parthasarathy, Karkivelan and Sivakumar were participated.
Today, Madurai Advocates also protested in a peaceful manner and further every district advocates are organising silent gathering/protest to show our solidarity across Tamilnadu to save democracy, freedom of expression and fundamental rights.
The Banners with following slogans hold by the advocates in long standing line.
◆ Repeal archaic, colonial criminal contempt law.
◆ We stand with Mr Prashant Bhushan.
◆ Drop contempt proceedings against Prashant Bhushan . Protect freedom of speech and expression.
◆ No Bar , No Bench. Protect independance of both Bar and Judiciary.
